Speicherstadt and Hafencity
On this city tour on foot, we will show you the warehouses of the famous Speicherstadt and the new Hafencity, which is being built on the Elbe on former harbour ground. You will see the magnificent warehouses along the canals, which were built to store goods from all over the world. Cocoa, tobacco, pepper, cinnamon, coffee and tea were stored here. The Speicherstadt has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015.
The Hafencity is being built right next to the Speicherstadt. This large, innovative construction project is two-thirds complete. New residential and office buildings have replaced storage sheds on the old harbour basins. Large waterfront squares, restaurants, museums and the Elbphilharmonie concert hall attract many people and make for a lively city. At the beginning of the tour, we will show you the old merchants' houses on Deichstraße. Here you can still see how people lived and worked in Hamburg in pre-industrial times.
For vocational school classes, we can focus on the Speicherstadt and integrate further information on the subject of logistics.
