Hamburg during the Nazi Era
- The brown hanseatic city
As a “Führerstadt“ Germany's largest overseas port played an important role in the plans of the National Socialists. Everyday life in the so called “Third Reich”, resistance and the “Swing Kids”, as well as the persecution of various sections of the population, are some of the topics covered on this city walk which starts at the former Gestapo headquarters in the Stadthaus and continues through the city centre. Along the way are the ruins of St Nikolai church, the town hall and the Inner Alster Lake with the “Alsterpavillon“.
